Ozobot is seeking an experienced, hands-on Part-Time Human Resources Manager to provide temporary HR support during a four-month maternity leave.
This individual will step into an established HR function and help maintain continuity across day-to-day people operations. The HR Manager will serve as a primary resource for employees and managers while supporting employee relations, payroll and benefits administration, onboarding and offboarding, recruiting, compliance, leaves of absence, and general HR operations.
This is an ideal opportunity for an HR professional who currently provides fractional or consulting HR support to small and mid-sized organizations and has the capacity to add Ozobot to their portfolio for the duration of the assignment.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, quickly learning existing processes, exercising sound judgment, and keeping HR matters moving with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a primary HR point of contact for employees and managers during the maternity leave coverage period.
- Provide day-to-day HR guidance and support related to employee relations, performance management, attendance, workplace concerns, and general employee questions.
- Manage employee onboarding and offboarding, including offer documentation, background checks, new-hire paperwork, employment eligibility documentation, HRIS setup, and separation processes.
- Support payroll administration, including reviewing and coordinating new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, PTO, deductions, and other employee changes.
- Support employee benefits administration, including enrollments, qualifying life events, employee questions, and coordination with benefit providers and brokers.
- Coordinate and track employee leaves of absence and other employee time-away matters.
- Maintain accurate employee personnel files, HR documentation, and HRIS records while ensuring appropriate confidentiality and recordkeeping.
- Support recruiting activities as needed, including job postings, candidate coordination, interview scheduling, offer preparation, and pre-employment requirements.
- Partner with managers on performance management, employee documentation, disciplinary matters, and other routine employee relations needs.
- Support ongoing compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements for a workforce of approximately 36 employees located across the United States.
- Maintain and administer established HR policies, procedures, programs, and employee communications.
- Coordinate with outside employment counsel, benefits brokers, payroll providers, and other HR vendors as appropriate.
- Respond to employment verifications, unemployment claims, personnel requests, and other routine employment-related matters.
- Support employee engagement and other people initiatives as needed.
- Maintain an organized tracker of open HR matters, upcoming deadlines, employee changes, and projects throughout the assignment.
- Appropriately escalate significant employee relations, legal, compliance, or organizational matters to designated Company leadership.
- Provide a thorough transition of outstanding matters, upcoming deadlines, and relevant documentation at the conclusion of the assignment.
- 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably as an HR Manager, Senior HR Generalist, HR Business Partner, or similar role.
- Experience independently supporting a small to mid-sized organization across multiple HR disciplines.
- Strong working knowledge of California employment practices and HR compliance; multistate HR experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience handling employee relations and sensitive employee matters with professionalism and sound judgment.
- Hands-on experience with payroll administration, employee benefits, onboarding and offboarding, leaves of absence, recruiting, and HR compliance.
- Experience working with HRIS and payroll platforms.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High degree of discretion when handling confidential employee and Company information.
- Ability to operate independently while recognizing when matters require escalation to leadership or employment counsel.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus but not required.
Our ideal candidate is an experienced HR professional who currently provides fractional HR or consulting support and is accustomed to stepping into established organizations to provide practical, hands-on support.
Because this is a temporary coverage role, we are looking for someone who can quickly understand Ozobot's existing processes and priorities, maintain consistency throughout the assignment, and keep the HR function running smoothly rather than coming in to redesign established programs.
Preference will be given to candidates located in Orange County, California, who are able to occasionally visit our Newport Beach headquarters for meetings, employee matters, or other business needs. The majority of the work can be performed remotely.
The position is expected to require approximately 10-15 hours per week, with some flexibility based on business needs throughout the four-month assignment.
Success in this role means Ozobot's employees and managers continue to receive responsive and thoughtful HR support, payroll and benefits matters remain on track, employee issues are appropriately addressed and documented, compliance deadlines are maintained, and open matters are clearly tracked throughout the coverage period.
At the conclusion of the assignment, the HR Manager will provide an organized handoff of completed work, outstanding items, upcoming deadlines, and other relevant information to ensure a seamless transition back to the Company's regular HR leadership.
The anticipated compensation range for this temporary assignment is $55–$70 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and the structure of the engagement.
